HTC teases something incredible for next week, it's the Droid Incredible 4G LTE

Droid Incredible 4G LTE

We've gone hands-on with it; we've compared it to the HTC EVO 4G LTE plus, Verizon and HTC have made it official. Now it looks as though we may actually see the Droid Incredible 4G LTE finally land into some consumers hands according to a tweet sent out by HTC.

Next week, we've got some special fun headed your way. We hear it's going to be INCREDIBLE.

We don't think we're reading into it too much here, so if you had your eyes and heart set on the Droid Incredible 4G LTE you only have a few more days to wait and then you can give one a home. Any takers? Specs can be found here if you're looking for them.

Apple Wins Another Injunction, This Time Against Samsung’s Galaxy Nexus

After a week of successful introductions to the new Asus-built Nexus 7 tablet, the latest version of Android (nicknamed Jelly Bean), and its first self-manufactured hardware product in the Nexus Q, Google’s week is ending on a sour note. Apple has reportedly won an injunction against the Samsung Galaxy Nexus smartphone, Google’s flagship Android handset.

Jelly Bean is supposed to make its public debut on the Nexus 7 and the Galaxy Nexus in mid-July. But on Friday, U.S. District Judge Lucy Koh granted a preliminary injunction that will halt U.S. sales of the Galaxy Nexus, according to a Reuters report.

The decision closely follows Koh’s Wednesday ruling that won Apple an injunction against another Android-powered Samsung device, the Galaxy 10.1 tablet.

Though not a party in the lawsuit, Google emailed Wired a statement on the injunction, saying: “We’re disappointed with this decision, but we believe the correct result will be reached as more evidence comes to light.”

Samsung and Apple did not respond for comment by the time of publication. And the official court ruling is not yet publicly available.

According to Dan Levine, a Reuters reporter on site at the ruling, Judge Koh handed out paper copies of her decision to issue the temporary sales ban to both Apple’s and Samsung’s attorneys on Friday afternoon.

The SWAT Team Gently Reminds a Girl to Secure Her Wi-Fi Network By Raiding Her House with Flashbangs [WTFriday]

Here's a reminder that you should never, ever, ever have a Wi-Fi network without a password on it. Police in Indiana called up the SWAT team to raid an 18-year-old gir's house by smashing her front window and throwing two flashbangs inside because of her open Wi-Fi network. What the hell? More »

Opera 11.10 includes improved power saving features

opera 11.10 battery power
Just recently, the Opera 11.10 release candidate was made available for download. It brought a handful of important feature additions -- like HTML5 File API support and IMAP enhancements -- and loads of bugfixes. Nestled in amongst the other details in the Opera team's announcement is one more interesting tidbit: Opera 11.10 offers improved battery optimizations.

The timing here is certainly interesting, what with Microsoft's recent report on how much power the top five Web browsers consume. In its findings, Opera 11 was fairly low in the standings. While we've not seen any new benchmarks yet, we're curious to know whether the Opera 11.10 RC offers any significant gains.

If you're running Opera 11.10 on a laptop, let us know if you're seeing an improvement in your battery life while browsing!

World's smallest 4K USB 30 camera delivers 21 frames per second, fit in pocket

After proving that a 1080p webcam on USB 3.0 was possible, to the surprise of none, Point Grey's latest addition is a little more impressive, This "ice-cube sized" camera can pipe 4,096 x 2,160 images through that capacious USB 3.0 port, using Sony's new IMX1221 Exmor R sensor. Thanks to its size, the camera is geared toward business-centric applications, including broadcasting and high-resolution optical inspection -- which goes some way to explaining the $945 retail price. The full technical spec sheet waits in the press release, right after the break.

Tasty Planet is a fun flash game where you eat everything in sight

tastyplanet
So this professor comes up with a new toilet cleaner that works by "eating" the dirt; or so he thinks. That's how the plot starts for Tasty Planet. You play the role of the toilet cleaner, but you're not really a toilet cleaner after all -- you're a blob of gray goo that can eat anything that's smaller than yourself.

As you chomp away, you grow -- and as you grow, you can eat bigger and bigger stuff. The first level pits you against microscopic particles; by the time I stopped playing, I got all the way to eating cats and dogs. I know that sounds disturbing, but it's a really cute game, and there's no gore or anything like that.

Supposedly you keep growing and growing until you're able to eat whole planets (hence the name). The challenge factor comes when you realize you can't touch any critter larger than yourself - you'll get "bitten" and become smaller. In the beginning you're so small, that a single touch can kill you. Later on, you're big enough that touching larger animals doesn't kill you on the spot, but it does reduce your size. Each level is timed, so if you're not large enough by the time your clock runs out, you need to start again. As long as you don't touch the larger animals, you should be fine.

All in all, a fun, addictive little game. It's available for iOS, too.

Mozilla Messaging reintegrates with Labs, unifies focus on Web-based communication

Mozilla Messaging, citing Mozilla's increased focus on Web-borne communications, will be reintegrating with Mozilla Labs.

The Messaging subsidiary was formed in 2008 to focus on Thunderbird, but given Mozilla Labs' current focus on identity and contact management, it now makes sense for the groups to be merged. Thunderbird will be unaffected by the change -- some URLs might change, but that's it -- and presumably Messaging's F1 and Raindrop will thrive in the Labs playground.

What this means for the end user -- for the hundreds of millions of Firefox users -- is that the next big additions will be communication- and messaging-oriented. Contacts and F1 will be almost certainly be baked into Firefox 5 or 6, both of which will be released this year -- and, who knows, there might be something else even more exciting up Mozilla Labs' sleeve!

Bellowing Ads Have No Place in iTunes

As an Apple product-lovin' enthusiast, my default gut reaction is to defend Apple, just like my gut reaction to defend my family and friends. When Apple does something silly, or more likely doesn't do something it ought to do -- or consumers wish it would do -- I tend to think about it from the perspective of Apple's business interests. And I rationalize it. Often enough, it makes reasonable sense. After all, you don't get to be the most successful consumer tech company in the world for being dumb.

RIM Cutting 5,000 Jobs and Pushing Back BB10 in Disastrous Quarter [Rim]

The bad news for RIM: it lost nearly $200 million (adjusted) last quarter. The worse news: it's now letting 5,000 employees go, on top of the 2,000 cuts that had been previously announced. The very worst news: its BB10 operating system—and last hope for relevance—has been pushed back until next year. More »

Ancient EU Dispute Ends With $1B Fine Against Microsoft Upheld

European Union regulators on Wednesday upheld a billion-dollar fine levied against Microsoft. The fine was first issued in 2008 because Microsoft failed to comply with an order that it share product information with its competitors. Microsoft argued that it was not given enough guidance for how to comply, but EU regulators apparently weren't swayed. The company also argued that the fine was excessive. The European General Court, Europe's second-highest court, did lower the fine from 899 million euros to 860 million euros.
